Lane, next to garage

Reported via iOS in the Road Potholes category by Kevin Gourlay at 13:23, Sat 16 March 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 404022.

Huge hole in the road. Lorries are driving on the verge to avoid it. Sharp edges and will rip a tyre if a wheel goes over it.

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
Due to current budget constraints, we are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair.

The photo attached is on the edging/verge at the far end of the road, affecting access to minimal properties, and likely was caused by farm vehicles who need access to that far end of the road. The defect is easily avoidable and isn’t causing safety issues for anyone else as it isn’t a through road except for the farm, so I’m not looking at doing any works on this in the foreseeable.

Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways

  • Customer called not happy with the last response from Highways.
They advised the whole road is in terrible condition and it has been an issue for over a year.
They advised that parts of the road have collapsed and fills with water when it rains.
They advised that the potholes have lots of little stones in them which are thrown up when people drive through it.
The customer advised that the road has been reported several times before and they always get the same response.
Customer has asked to be contacted so they can arrange for to meet with the inspector and discuss it in person.

We already have maintenance work planned in for this area and the issue will be resolved as part of this work. We are, unfortunately, unable to provide you with a timescale for this to be completed, however, all repairs are prioritised using an assessment matrix in line with our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP).

We will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of the NMMP which can be found online - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx
