Loose drain cover on Station Road

Reported via desktop in the Road Surface category anonymously at 10:06, Wed 3 April 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 404977.

There is a loose drain cover that is creating an exceptional amount of noise on Station Road every time a car drives over it which is every few seconds. I live on Saffron Court and I can hear it from there. Everyday I walk along station road & the noise is getting louder, it sounds like a gun shot. Surely there is an environmental noise law that this is breaching. I can also hear it on back street. This level of noise is unacceptable and is purely down to the drain cover not fitting properly. I feel sorry for the residents as there is no way of escaping this dreadful noise and this must be so detrimental to their well being, I know it's affecting me from walking past & where I live. This has been going on for months now and is just getting worse.

  • Customer email:

You recently sent me an email acknowledging a complaint about a noise nuisance manhole cover in Station Road, Biggleswade. Ref: 404977. The persistent bang bang every few seconds during the day when the road is at its busiest is becoming intolerable and carries on all day and night.
I would be interested to know when something will be done about it,

  • Regarding my original complaint on 3rd April regarding the loose drain cover on Station road. Can you please tell me when this will be fixed permanently? I believe you may have done a quick fix but this clearly hasn't worked. A permanent solution needs to be found. You have a duty of care to a) fix problems when they arise and b) spend public money wisely. Do a job once & do it well. You are also human beings so please have some consideration for the residents that live on Station road & the surrounding roads that are affected by the noise day & night.
