Between 140 Luton Road, Dunstable and 146, Luton Road Dunstable on public footpath

Reported via iOS in the Drains/Ditches Blocked category by Leigh Davies at 21:39, Sun 23 June 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 408397.

WATER FLOWING OUT OF MANHOLE COVER ON PAVEMENT OUTSIDE EWE AND LAMB PUB AND FOOTPATH DRAINS OUTSIDE 146 FULLY BLOCKED, COMPOUNDING ISSUE. WATER IS POOLING, PEDESTRIANS BEING SPLASHED BY VEHICLES On 23rd and 24th May 2024, Affinity water attended near 162 Luton Road to complete ‘essential work to fix a leak.’ On day 2 of the work, I arrived home from work at 5pm. I could see a construction team making good outside 162 Luton Road. Outside The Ewe and Lamb pub water was flowing out of a manhole cover in the foot path. The water was flowing into the gully on the path, and along past 142, 144, 146. At that point the water was pooling. There are two drain covers in the gully that are full of dust/ soil. So the floodwater cannot enter the drain. The water began to pool on the path, then began overflowing down into the driveway and front garden of 146 Luton Road. The water came right up to the front door of the property. Green slime had developed on the properties driveway. After 7 days the situation remained the same even though neighbours had said they had reported the problem to the council and Affinity water. I reported the leak on affinity water’s report a leak website on Thursday 30th May 2024. I sent photo’s showing the location of the leak and where the water was pooling. I monitored the website until 2nd June, the leak was not shown on the map. I called Affinity water on the 2nd June. I enquired as to whether they had received my report. Yes, the customer service person could see my photographs on the system. They said they would require permission from the council to install 4 way traffic control at the junction to complete the repair. I was told I would be emailed with updates. I continued to monitor the ‘report a leak’ website. The status report showed that a technician has attended and cannot find a leak. This was shown twice. We are now one full month on, and the situation has not changed. I have not received an email update. Today I telephoned Affinity water again. They said they are waiting to hear from the council. They said they would liaise with the council again, with the hope of being able to update me on 24th/ 25th June.
