Bend sign outside Chalton Manor Farmhouse-opposite 24, Blunham Road MK443RA

Reported via desktop in the Signs category by Pauline Williams at 18:41, Tuesday 2 July 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 408744.

I received your report on my previous report on the obstruction of the bend sign by tree branches today. The obstruction is still there. I have no idea where your engineers went in order to produce their report. Please expedite another visit. Thank you. My phone number is 01767 641661

  • My apologies - we misinterpreted the report and visited the sign on the bend within the conifers, which has been cut back. We will revisit the correct location and update.

  • Re the bend where you have already visited in error, that growth is growing back over and needs re pruning/cutting back. I have cut back tree growth over the notice board which is near where you are going for the bend sign opp 24, Blunham Rd., I could not cut enough as am not tall. The hinge for opening the glass front is at the top so not easy to lift up while changing notices with branches over it. There is leaf and seed fall from the trees at the moment and piles of leaves are now in the gutter where the one drain is. Both of the soakaways at the end of my drive are full and solid to the top, but are in a list for maintenance. Please report to whoever might action this - thank you. PW

  • We will issue a letter to the property requesting that the trees are lifted to a suitable height to ensure all signage is visible.

  • The bend sign opposite number24 is still not visible - is it not 'your sign' and one which should be seen? I know the view the owner takes re cutting back her trees - hopefully your letter will express a view on road safety and her responsibility. The horizontal bend sign in the hedge at 95, Blunham Road is now hardly visible and certainly not from any distance. So now we have a right angled bend with no signage to show it!

The road sweepers did a good job on clearing the Lime 'wings' from the gutters and edges EXCEPT outside my house where there are still growing piles of them. When we moved here in 2011 the fence was where it is now. We didn't realise that our border should have been c44" further into the lane?? - This because there are all sorts of joins from the past in this area, including the two soakaways and a crate which were installed to help with road drainage (and which are full of solid, not floating debris from across the road, as usual). I appreciate, if that is the word, that you want to do the least possible, but does it not make sense that this area should have been cleared when the rest was done. The leaves/wings which collect from across the road need to be cleared from a drainage point of view - please will you do something to escalate this and have it as a plan for the future. At least send someone out at a time when I can be here to explain, if it is really not obvious to desk workers what needs to be done, and how unfair this is for a person living here. Thank you for your help so far - please let's get it settled for the future. This will be going on through the summer and then we have the big leaf fall of autumn. Pauline Williams.

  • Regarding my last referral 1.8.24 'in progress' - the bend sign opposite 24, Blunham Road is still not visible. May I ask if the letter about this (as per your note 25.7.24) was sent to the property owner? It occurs to me that for the sign to be visible the trees will need to be pruned from in front of her driveway and down past the sign - just in case someone might think that to cut around this sign would be sufficient - please have them check while doing it, to make sure and to save another visit. It was interesting as she had someone cutting her hedge further on down the lane last week and I would have thought he could have done that job too. He didn't cut the hedge under the trees I am talking about. The trees are certainly showing signs of stress now. So, will she have received a letter/notification from you? As said before, surely to have this sign visible is your responsibility to road users? Thank you

  • The situations as above, are all still outstanding and problematical. The bend sign has still not been made visible and with HGVs using the lane, in both directions, not a safe situation. The lane is also used in both directions for cars, especially at busy times when visiting the Secret Farm. A new problem is where the crates were put under the edge of the road near the end of my front fence. It has been noted by several people that a hole is opening up where the asphalt is beginning to sink / break up. The 2 soakaways which feed the crates are, as usual, blocked to the top with leaves etc (from the overgrown trees across the road, as advised over many, many months/years). Re the hole - 'A stitch in time saves nine'? It is increasing in size.

  • We will follow up with the address regarding the trees covering the Highway signage. Any issue with the soakaways/drainage will need to be logged seperately on FixMyStreet so they can go straight to the correct department/officer.
