Lake street, LB from the junction with the High Street to the Leighton Buzzard Library building

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category by Mr Alan Gomersall at 12:20, Monday 12 August 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 410223.

This street is one way from the junction with Duncombe Drive to the junction with the High street. Unfortunately the road markings indicate that cyclists may travel against the traffic. Many drivers who park in the bays on Lake Street see the cyclists' indicator arrows on the road and think that they can drive out of the bays and travel down to the junction with Duncombe drive. I have "met" three drivers travelling the wrong way down Lake Street three times in the last 2 weeks! This is a traffic safety problem.

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
Due to current budget constraints, we are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.
