Poor quality joint sealing works

Reported via desktop in the Road Surface category anonymously at 14:42, Tuesday 13 August 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 410280.

Some recent "joint sealing" works were carried out and the repairs are very poor quality. There are areas marked for repair that have not been repaired, other unmarked areas in need of repair, and underfilled joins everywhere.

Pictures attached show underfilled repairs, missed repairs, and the general poor quality of works performed.

The street is actually WORSE to drive around now, as the joints to these new repairs are not flush with the existing road surface every joint is now 2 bumps rather than one. There are large sections with large yellow boxes around them marked "FDR" which have deteriorated due to these repairs and the blow torch thing that the crew use tearing the road surface at these areas, and there is a large section at the corner in Weston Avenue all marked up with no repairs done.

Of the 5 days the team were supposed to be on site, they attended for 2.5 days. No show Monday, Turned up Tuesday, no-show Wednesday, Worked Thursday, and were off down the pub at 13:00 on Friday, with outstanding works remaining.

Please arrange the team to return ASAP to make good these so-called repairs.

  • More works planned for September
Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
We already have maintenance work planned in for this area and the issue will be resolved as part of this work. We are, unfortunately, unable to provide you with a timescale for this to be completed, however, all repairs are prioritised using an assessment matrix in line with our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP).

We will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of the NMMP which can be found online - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways
