30mph speed reduction and addition of a safe crossing for school children and Amazon/UPS workers
Reported via mobile in the Road markings and lining category by Lee David Caswell at 16:54, Sunday 18 August 2024
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 410428.
There is a lot of grass at the intersection of the old Watling street and new Watling street. The old Watling street has a national speed limit of 60mph there is no footpath and this should be 20mph or max 30mph. The chalk hill farm hamlet should benefit from a simple roundabout giving a natural traffic calming from the southern approach of vehicles heading north, these vehicle will be warned of a ‘new road layout ahead!’ Then the speed will be changed to 30mph northbound and southbound level with the speed camera giving added safety to motorists and residents of Sewell. A mini roundabout is the most cost effective way of calming traffic and the speed camera is already in situ and can record vehicles heading north thus generating revenue and safety. Add a pedestrian crossing on the existing island opposite the white lion public house as Amazon/UPS workers and school children frequent the bus stops and there is no safe place to cross a 40mph road.
If you don’t believe this is dangerous look at the collision damage to the wall outside DLG 2 meters from the bus stop!
In summary I will send a copy of this to the highways agency, local MP and would appreciate a personal reply from your head of department with some action points and predicted dates of completion.
Kind regards Lee David Caswell, Chalk Hill Resident
