TL059329 through to Blackhill Lane

Reported via mobile in the Public Rights of way category by David Fenner at 21:23, Tue 27 August 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6405051.

My partner and I are trying to walk the John Bunyan trail around parts of Bedfordshire and this path seriously discourages us from continuing. It is part of the trail and thus surely should be given a level of priority if Central Bedfordshire wishes to encourage "tourists". It is so seriously overgrown that we had to give up and turn back, no doubt technically trespassing to find an alternative route as there is no reasonable alternative public footpath accessible from the trail. I note there was a previous comment about this path and that funds were not available but given the paths role in a key walking route publicised by others in Bedfordshire its significance needs to be appreciated and suitable work performed.

Updates

  • HI. Thanks for your report. Unfortunately this path isn't on our public rights of way annual grass cutting contract and we do not currently have any budget to add it to the contract. The John Bunyan Trail is a Ramblers promoted route and so the local Ramblers RIPPLE group is hopefully carrying out a volunteer task shortly to clear the path.

  • Work to be carried out by volunteer group. We will consider adding it to our annual grass cutting contract from next year if budget allows
