Outside 54 Saunders Piece

Reported via mobile in the Trees category anonymously at 11:38, Tue 1 October 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 412496.

Issues we’re having and trees are causing –

• Excessive Leaf and branches dropping into our garden and onto our roof, blocking gutters and other drainage.

• Large branches have fallen from the trees outside our property and the others on the road, onto the paths outside our boundary, these paths are used by people taking their children to school and the nurseries up the road. Causing a safety issue.

• Sap being excreted from the trees has stained and marked our path and fences (picture attached)

• Even with high power jet washing this sap is very hard to remove and still stains.

• The sap also means we have to get our windows cleaned every month due to excessive build up

The sap has caused our pathway to become very slippy in wet weather

• The trees also drop sap onto the plants and lawn in the front garden, which limits what we can grow, sometimes it kills off what we plant.

• The trees are so large now they’re also blocking light into the property.

• The road outside the property isn’t in great condition, I am not expert, but I can’t imagine trees so large with such large roots system are ideally situated next to paths and roads.

The trees are very occasionally trimmed down the bottoms, but I feel more extensive works need to be carried out to bring them back under control.

Updates

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Central Bedfordshire Council at 11:39, Tue 1 October 2024

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
Due to current budget constraints, we are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. We had some work undertaken on 04/10 to this tree - while the overall size hasn't been reduced, other issues were addressed. As per our Policy, we are not obliged to prune trees for seasonal issues such as leaf drop, sap drop, bird mess, or to allow additional light to enter into property. At current we do not believe further works are required.

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways
