Footpath starts next to layby on left of Apsley Road as you leave Pegsdon,

Reported via desktop in the Public Rights of way category anonymously at 06:36, Sunday 26 January 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7033291.

This footpath is totally, dangerously overgrown. I cleared some of it in an attempt to pass, but was stopped by piles of felled branches/trees that have been placed across the public footpath. I managed to access the first 100 yards or so, with difficulty. There is also some loose barbed wire on the ground. Overhead, there are many rotten branches: they break easily, and generally it feels very unsafe to walk this path. There are huge brambles everywhere. Right now, the nettles have died back and thus it is more accessible than it will be come spring, but still far from safely passable.

This report is now closed to updates from the public. You can make a new report in the same location.

Updates

  • See other response. We will speak to the landowner about the fallen trees/branches and barbed wire fencing which would be their responsibility to deal with. We hope to arrange a volunteer task in mid March to clear any surface vegetation we can. The paths are already on our annual grass cutting contract which takes place in the spring/summer. At the moment, the budget allows 2 cuts - one in May/June and one in August/September.
